Aged 13, Gates attended the private Lakeside school. It was there that Gates had his first introduction to computers. He taught himself to programme in Basic, making a simple "Tic-Tac-Toe" game. In high school he helped form a group of programmers who computeried thier school's payroll system and founded Traf-O-Data, a company that sold traffic-counting system to local government. Gates was fascinated by the machine and how it would always excute software code perfectly. When he reflected back on that moment, he said , "There was just something neat about th machine." After the Mothers Club donation was exhausted, he and other students sought time on systems including DEC PDP minicomputers. One of these systems was PDP-belonging to Computer Center Coporation(CCC), which banned four lakeside students-Gates, Paul G.Allen, Ric Weiland and Kent Evans- for the summer after it caught them exploiting bugs in the operating system to obtain free computer time.

Start Microsoft
In 1975 Gates, then a sophomore at Harvard University, joined his hometown friend Paul G.Allen to develop software for the first Microcomputers.They began by adapting BASIC interpreter for the platform. Paul Allen was hired inot MITS, and Gates took a leave of absence from Harvard to work with Allen at MITS in Albuquerque in November. They named their partnership "Micro-Soft" and had their first office located in Albuquerque. Within a year the hyphen was dropped , and on November, the trade name "Microsoft" was registered with the Office of Secretary of the State of New Mexico. Gates never returned to Harvard University to complete his studies. In 1979, they moved the company to Bellevue, Washington, just east of Seattle.
Microsoft became famous for its computer operating systems and killer bussiness deals. In 1980, Gates and Allen licensed an operating system callled MS-DOS to IBM, at the time the world's largest computer maker, for its first microcomputer, the IBM Pc. They were smart enough to retain the right to license the operating system to other companies, which eventually made tham a fortune.

Microsoft launched its first retail version of Microsoft WIndows on November. In August of the following year, the company struck a deal with IBM to develop a separate operating system called OS/. Althrough the two companies successfully developed the first version of the new system , the partnership deteriorated due to mounting creative differences.

In 1994 , Gates married Melinda French, who has an MBA and a bachelor's degree in computers and met him while she was working at Microsost.

Gates studied the work of Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller and donated some of his Microsoft stock into create th "Willian Hanry Gates Foundation". In Gates and his wife combined three family foundations and Gates donated stock valued at $ billion to create the charitable Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, which was identified, with assets for NGOs company in , as the world's weathiest charitable founation.
The foundation is organized into four program areas:Global Development Division, Global Health Division, United States Division and Global Policy & Advocacy Division. The foundation support the use of genetically modified organisms in agricultural development.
